The Open Road

Filed in Tee, Travel, work, writing

There is something about my drive to and from work. There are three stretches of road that I love. There are no street lights, no traffic lights and barely any shoulder on the road. I love them.

Road to Nowhere - Benjamin Earwicker

There’s something about those roads – where the only sights are cows and cornfields – that adds a kind of peace to my drive. The best time is at night, when the night kisses the day, the stars begin to shine and my Kia doesn’t know whether to turn the headlights on or not.

It’s a kind of freedom. For a few kilometers the world is mine, the open road lies ahead of me and I am flying to meet my destiny.

Inevitably, the open road ends. Then I’m up to my bumpers in tailgaters, traffic lights, road construction and general road rage at the lineup at Timmy’s. And yet, everyday I get back in the car. I head to work and long for that bit of open road.

I love Writing

Filed in Tee, work, writing

I am love with writing. It’s not just the act of putting pen to paper or the ritual of getting into the zone, though.

I admire you authors who have the will determination to get into your creative zone.  From creating sacred space to emptying the room of all distractions, I love it.  I love the feeling of pen and paper in my hand, of holding my thoughts in my head until they are crisp, clear and begging to be placed into being.  Satisfaction fills me as reams and reams of yellow legal pads are filled and stacked. Sheer delight tickles me as I read over, edit and type what I’ve already written.

What I also love is the whole world that surrounds this act of love.  And it is love for sure. For the paper lovers in us all it is heaven. I can remember being in Montreal and finding a belle papier boutique. My dear husband thought I was nuts. DIDN’T CARE! I spent over an hour choosing a fountain pen and a small amount of writing cards.
Then there is the paper itself I have stalked Michaels and hunted down other small stores for unique papers and note card sets. Hey, don’t knock the bargain bin people, it is awesome!

And don’t get me started on Levenger!  How I LOVE that website and catalog (yes, catalogs are a whole ‘nother post!) I love the inkpots and pens, the writing systems and binders. < swoons >  I may never buy a thing from them but you know I’m pouring over the catalogs! And now that I’m working for these guys, I’m doing my best not to have a joygasm when I walk in the store or look at their website and catalogs.

I also love is just the simple act of writing someone a note. I do not mean a Facecrack message or a nice long and wordy email. I’m talking about a hand written note or letter that is dropped in the mail. <happy sigh>   In this world of computers , I feel it is essential to keep up the hand writing skills. Hey I even have to brush up on my handwriting skills. So if you see me writing out my ABCs, you know what I’m doing!

I want it BAD

Eating Healthly

Eating Healthy

SO I’m staring down my first bowl of oatmeal. Yes for those of you who know me, I hate oatmeal. Why am I facing it and choking it down?  Because the evil oatmeal helps lower cholesterol and has a whack of fiber in it. If I lower the C-lol I can get off the Lipitor. If I have more fiber I’ll lose weight easier. < sigh > at least it’s wild berry flavor. < holds nose and shovels in another bite >

Drumming, Travelling and other assorted stuffs

Drumming

People may not know, but I organize a small drum circle called “Port Drum.” Drumming is and was something I’ve wanted to be a part of for a short while.  The beat, the rhythm, the trance where I could lose myself and come out on the other end with a clarity of mind that meditation could never bring me…. I wanted it bad. I hung out with my AWESOME friends at Firedance and learned a thing or two. One – I don’t exactly suck but I do need a LOT of work to be a drummer. Two – why the hell don’t I start a circle closer to home so we can jam with Firedance and not feel like dirt cuz  we aren’t as good as them?? Well Port Drum was born this year. Now I’ll tell you the truth, for a long time I did not own a djembe.  It was heartbreaking. All of that has changed now. Here she is everyone. This is Una:

Travelling

I got Una in Montreal, QC. The city was gorgeous! It was nice to get away from it all even if for a few days for sure. It was one of the few trips that I did NOT bring the big camera with me and spend most of my time looking for a good shot. Oh yeah, did I mention that JAZZFEST was going on??? We saw Fat Tuesday Brass Band, heard Stevie Wonder and even bore witness to a parade going by.  Hoping to fit in a day trip or two before the snow flies again :-)

Other Stuff:

Once again, Durham Pagan Pride Day is rolling around. Getting volunteers and fund raising for that. Got some new photo equipement that just rox my sox! Two backgrounds on “jet” color and the other is white. Very cool stuffs indeed. Business isn’t booming but I’m not gonna complaing. Got some new sites – personal and clients – in the works and very happy about it!

This is my walk on the moon!
